K-96 June Jaunt Activities: History

{This is part 6 of a 9 part series about the activities you can enjoy during the K-96 June Jaunt.}

Now that you've been introduced to all of our fine communities along K-96, we're sure you're ready to begin planning your trip to get you from point A to point B. If you're not sure how to best plan your route for the K-96 June Jaunt, over the next few weeks you can find the events here by categories of interest. These categories will be: Arts, Antiques, Crafts, Cuisine, Family, History, Music, Rural Activities, and Shopping. Use these categories as a guide to find the best activities suited to your interests. Or for a more adventurous traveler feel free to jaunt wherever the wind blows come June 1-3. Our writer for this blog falls more into the first category of planning, but we welcome all types.

We've covered antiques, those beautiful historic items you can purchase and take home with you, but what about the history buffs we have out there. There will many events that will allow you to explore the history of the western counties along K-96 so make sure to let your route include a trip into history!

Great Bend's History Events:
  • Kansas Wetlands Education Center Van Tours at 10 AM, 2:30 PM on June 2 at 2200 Main
Leoti's History Events:
  • Museum of the Great Plains open from 1 PM-5 PM on June 1-3 at 201 N. 4th
  • Historic Washington Ames House Tours at 9-11AM and 2-4PM on June 2 at 112 N. 3rd
Ness City's History Events:
  • Ness County Historical Museum open from 7AM-2PM on June 2, 10-2 on June 3 at 123 S. Penn
  • Ness County Oil & Ag Museum open from 7AM-2PM on June 2, 10-2 on June 3 at 211 E. Sycamore
  • Prairie Mercantile & Bank Building open from 7AM-2PM on June 2, 10AM-2PM on June 3 at 102 W. Main
Rush County's History Events:
  • Kansas Barbed Wire Museum Tours from 10-4:30 on June 1-2, 1-4:30PM on June 3 at 120 W 1st in Lacrosse
