K-96 June Jaunt Activities: Cuisine

{This is part 4 of a 9 part introduction of activities you will find during the K-96 June Jaunt to help you plan your trip.}

Now that you've been introduced to all of our fine communities along K-96, we're sure you're ready to begin planning your trip to get you from point A to point B. If you're not sure how to best plan your route for the K-96 June Jaunt, over the next few weeks you can find the events here by categories of interest. These categories will be: Arts, Antiques, Crafts, Cuisine, Family, History, Music, Rural Activities, and Shopping. Use these categories as a guide to find the best activities suited to your interests. Or for a more adventurous traveler feel free to jaunt wherever the wind blows come June 1-3. Our writer for this blog falls more into the first category of planning, but we welcome all types.

This post will include special cuisine activities during the K-96 June Jaunt as well as tidbits about where to eat in each community. If you're a foodie and looking for delicious cuisine along the route or you just want to plan where you should eat as you travel make sure to read this post thoroughly!

Dighton's Cuisine:
  • Hot Dogger & Southern Gospel Concert from 4-6PM on June 1 at 1st & James
  • Imaginizza (Invent a Pizza Contest) from 10-2 on June 2 at 132 E. Long
Ellinwood's Cuisine:
  • Ice Cream Sundae Party at 8 PM on June 1 at Wolf Park
  • Lone Wolf Restaurant located at 11 E. 1st Street open Tues-Sat from 11AM-8PM, Sunday 8AM-2PM. Be sure to try their chicken fried steaks!
  • John Henry's Restaurant located at 518 E. Santa Fe open Mon-Sat 11AM-2PM & 5PM-9PM. They're known for miles around for their hamburgers & steaks!
  • American Legion located at 117 E. Santa Fe open Mon-Sat 5PM-Midnight, closed Tuesdays. Located in the historic brick train depot!
Great Bend's Cuisine:
  • JUNE JAM in the Zoo from 4:30-8PM on June 1 at 2200 Main - enjoy BBQ and live music
  • Colossal Farmers Market & Food Vendors - All Day on June 2 at 1400 Main
  • Young Professionals Beer Garden from 7-11PM on June 2 at 1400 Main
  • Try on of Great Bend's 42 wonderful restaurants! Unique eats like Perks Coffee Shoppe, 1216 Main; Los Dos Potrillos, 2020 Forest; or Lumpy's Bar & Grill, 2017 Forest are sure to please your palate!

Leoti's Cuisine:
  • Rural Life Craft and Demonstration Fair from 10-2 on June 2 at 206 S. 4th. There will be many homemade and tasty treats for you to enjoy while you view the demonstrations and crafts.
  • BBQ Meal Sponsored by Seaboard Foods from 5:30-7:00PM at Wichita County Fairgrounds. $6 per plate with proceeds going to the Cole Hudson Memorial
  • Route 96 Cafe located at E. Hwy 96 open Mon-Sat 5AM-2PM & 5:30-8:30PM, Sundays 8AM-2PM & 5:30-8:30PM
  • Charlie's Mexican Restaurant located at 510 E. Broadway open from Mon-Saturday 5-8:30 PM. Try the green chili...you won't be disappointed!
  • Dairy King located at 412 E. Broadway open Monday - Saturday 11AM-7PM! Try a brown derby or fresh cherry limeade! They deliver the classics at this 1960s style drive-in!
Ness City's Cuisine:
  • Farmers' Market from 7AM- 2PM on June 2 in downtown Ness City
  • Pizza Plus located at 108 S. Pennsylvania, open 11AM-8:30PM Monday-Sunday
  • Cactus Club located at 124 S. Pennsylvania
  • Cozy Tavern located at 117 E. Sycamore
  • El Dos de Oros located at 409 E. Sycamore, open 11AM-8:30PM Monday-Sunday
Rush County's Cuisine:
  • Back Door Pizza located at 120 W. Union in Rush Center, open Saturday & Sunday. Serving pizzas baked the old-fashioned way...don't miss this weekend treat in Rush Center! 
  • Effie's located at 120 W. Union in Rush Center, open Monday - Friday. Serving Rush Center's best burgers and fries since 1946
  • Greg's Sports Pub & Grub located at 111 W. Union in Rush Center, open Monday-Sunday. Serving steaks, burgers & daily specials
  • The Timken Hill located at 3023 Highway 96 in Timken, open Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the June Jaunt! Serving home-made chicken fried steak, sandwiches and daily specials!
Scott City's Cuisine:
  • Throwdown BBQ Competition - All Day on June 2 at the 1200 Block of Main
  • El Dos de Oros located at 1213 1/2 S Main
  • La Fiesta located at 109 Park Lane, Be sure to try this great Tex Mex restaurant and their cooked to perfection chips and salsa!
  • The Majestic located at 420 S. Main Street. Offering a delicious prime rib dinner and beautiful dining atmosphere! 
  • Peking Garden located at 324 S Main Street
Tribune's Cuisine:
  • Community Lunch, at 12 PM on June 2 at Hwy 27
  • Hog Roast, Music and Prizes from 5PM-3AM at 208 W. Kansas
  • Community Picnic in the Park from 6-8PM on June at 1001 Ingalls
  • Burger Bar located on Hwy 96, open daily except Wednesdays. Serving everything from double cheeseburgers with onion rings to daily specials. Drive-thru allows from breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go!
  • The Chatterbox Cafe located on Hwy 96, open Tuesday-Friday 5:30AM-2PM, Thursday 5-8PM, Sunday from 10AM-2PM 
  • Karen's Kitchen located at 416 Broadway, open Mon-Sat 10AM-1:30PM, 4:30-8PM
  • The Trench Bar and Grill located on Hwy 96, open Mon., Wed., Fri., and Saturday in the evenings. Serving nightly specials from club steak to Mexican food to Rocky Mountain Osyters and pizza!
From burgers and shakes to Mexican fare and fresh farmers market goods, you can't go wrong in your quest for delicious cuisine during the K-96 June Jaunt!
